Movable and Immovable Assets of Tenants Failing to Pay Outstanding Shop Rent Will Be Attached Dr Vaishali Sharma Municipal Commissioner

Karnal, April 21:- The Municipal Corporation will now deal strictly with tenants who fail to deposit the rent for shops owned by the Corporation. Under this initiative, the Municipal Corporation will attach the movable and immovable assets of tenants who fail to clear the outstanding dues for shops that have already been sealed. The Corporation's enforcement team has completed all necessary preparations for this operation.
Providing details on the matter, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vaishali Sharma stated that tenants of 18 shops—which were sealed during the previous financial year—have not yet paid their outstanding rent dues. The total outstanding amount stands at ?91,24,974. The tenants associated with these shops have been granted a grace period of three days. If they fail to clear the outstanding rent within this timeframe, proceedings to attach the movable and immovable assets of the respective tenants will be initiated.
She further informed that the list of major defaulters comprises the names of 133 tenants; among these, the aforementioned 18 shops had already been sealed by the Municipal Corporation. Additionally, there are outstanding dues amounting to ?36,09,691 pending against the remaining 115 shops. These tenants, too, have been granted a three-day window to deposit their rent. Following this period, the Municipal Corporation will commence its enforcement action.
Shops in the following areas are included: Maharishi Valmiki Chowk, Novelty Road, Prem Nagar, Ram Nagar, Minar Road, Old Bus Stand Road, Old Post Office, Meerut Road, Bans Gate, Arjun Gate, Nehru Palace Market, Randhir Road, Dr. Gyan Bhushan Market Road, Karn Park, Karn Tal, Kambopura, Uchani, and Uchana. Recovery in the Financial Year 2025-26 — He stated that the Municipal Corporation achieved a record recovery of shop rents during the financial year 2025-26. During this period, revenue amounting to ?1,93,03,383 was collected. This figure includes both current rent and outstanding arrears. Additionally, ?33,67,400 was recovered in the form of interest.
