Karnal, November 26: On the fifth anniversary of the farmers' movement, farmers, laborers, and employees in Karnal held a massive protest under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). Gathering at Mahatma Gandhi Chowk, the protesters marched to the District Secretariat, raising slogans against the government.
They demanded the implementation of the 2021 agreement between the Central Government and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the withdrawal of all four labor codes, a legal guarantee for MSP, and the protection of workers' constitutional rights. In front of the District Secretariat, the protesters expressed their anger by burning copies of the labor code notification and submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Tehsildar.
BKU District President Surendra Ghuman alleged that the government has not fulfilled its promises even after five years, and if the agreements are not implemented, farmers will be forced to launch another major movement. SKS District President Sushil Gujjar stated that the implementation of the four labor codes would repeal 29 labor-friendly laws, jeopardizing workers' constitutional rights and serving the interests of capitalists. He warned that if the government did not repeal the labor codes, the United Kisan Morcha was prepared for a major movement. Several leaders, including BKU State Organization Minister Shyam Singh Mann, Surendra Sangwan, Satpal Saini, Sheeshpal Singh, Jile Singh Pal, Jaswinder, Madan Singh, Rupa Rana, Jaraso Sharma, Tara Chand Saini, Gulab Singh Arya, Sudesh, Shimla, Subhash Parocha, Raj Kumar, Roshan Lal, Om Prakash Singhmar, Master Balraj, Telu Ram, and Jai Bhagwan, addressed the protest. Hundreds of farmers, laborers, and employees participated in the protest, raising their voices against the government's anti-farmer policies.
