Hoshiarpur: The Punjab government is implementing several significant reforms in the school and higher education sectors. Punjab Education Secretary Sonali Giri (IAS) shared details regarding the government's education reform initiatives during a special conversation with a senior correspondent.
Sonali Giri stated that the government's primary objective is to provide students with quality education that is aligned with future needs. Emphasis is being placed on Artificial Intelligence (AI), entrepreneurship, and modern technical skills within school education. These measures aim to foster creativity, problem-solving abilities, and an entrepreneurial mindset among students.
She noted that teachers are a vital part of the education system, and the government is committed to addressing their legitimate concerns. Efforts are underway to provide teachers with better support, training, and a conducive work environment. Schools are also focusing on digital education, skill development, career awareness, practical learning, and logical thinking.
In the higher education sector, attention is being directed towards improving the infrastructure and academic environment of government and government-aided colleges. The admission process for students in Punjab has been streamlined and made more convenient through a centralized online admission system.
Regarding the long-standing demand to merge the staff of government-aided schools into the government education system, Sonali Giri (IAS) stated that the matter is under the Punjab government's consideration. She added that the government is reviewing the issue, taking all aspects into account, and an appropriate decision will be taken.
She emphasized that Punjab's progress is directly linked to the quality of education. Strengthening schools and colleges, addressing teachers' issues, and preparing students for future challenges are among the government's key priorities.
