Karnal: Under a special campaign launched by the Karnal District Police—in accordance with the directives of the Superintendent of Police—to apprehend Proclaimed Offenders (POs) and bail jumpers, the CIA-2 staff team has achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting an accused individual who had jumped bail.
This operation was executed by the CIA-2 team, led by Sub-Inspector Devender Singh and comprising a police unit headed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Fakir Chand. The police team lawfully arrested the accused, Kuljit alias Billa—son of the late Suresh Singh, a resident of Guru Nanakpura (under the Ramnagar Police Station jurisdiction) in Karnal, and currently residing in Islampur (under the City Rajpura Police Station jurisdiction) in Punjab.
According to the information received, a case was registered against the accused under the POCSO Act at the Women's Police Station, Karnal, on December 22, 2016. In connection with this case, the police had previously arrested the accused and produced him before the court, where he was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment on December 6, 2017. The accused was serving this sentence at the District Jail, Karnal.
In the aforementioned case, the accused was granted temporary release on parole for a period of four weeks and was directed to surrender himself at the District Jail, Karnal, upon the expiration of the parole period. However, the convict, Kuljit alias Billa, failed to report back to the jail at the scheduled time; instead, he absconded while on parole and had remained at large ever since.
Taking serious cognizance of the accused's absence and his defiance of court orders, a fresh case—FIR No. 157—was registered against him at the Ramnagar Police Station on May 3, 2022, under Sections 8/9 of the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act.
Given the gravity of the matter, the police team conducted a continuous search operation; acting on confidential intelligence and utilizing technical investigative methods, they successfully apprehended the accused in Rajpura, Punjab.
The arrested accused was produced before the Honorable Court today, from where he has been remanded to judicial custody.
