Haryana/Hisar: The Department of Livestock Production Management at Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Hisar—in collaboration with the Haryana Pashu Vigyan Kendra (Animal Science Centre), Lakriya—organized a livestock farmers' workshop and training program on the subject of dairy farming for beneficiaries belonging to the Scheduled Caste category in Meharana village of Jhajjar district. This program was funded by the Buffalo Breed Improvement Project of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Government of India. The livestock workshop was conducted under the guidance of the University's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma, and under the supervision of the Program Director—Dr. D.S. Bidhan, Head of the Department of Livestock Production Management—and Dr. Sanjay Yadav, Regional Director of the Haryana Pashu Vigyan Kendra.
Speaking on the occasion, various speakers highlighted the significance of training programs for livestock farmers, explaining that by acquiring scientific knowledge and information regarding innovative techniques, farmers can make their dairy businesses more profitable. Such programs provide farmers with crucial information regarding better animal care, enhancing milk production, and disease prevention, thereby leading to an increase in their income.
Dr. Dipin Chandra Yadav and Dr. Man Singh—scientists from the Department of Livestock Production Management—along with Dr. Nilesh Sindhu, Assistant Professor at the Veterinary Hospital Complex, played pivotal roles as coordinators of the workshop.
During the workshop, Dr. Dipin Chandra Yadav provided information regarding the scientific housing, balanced diet, and proper management of dairy animals, explaining that by adopting correct management practices, livestock farmers can significantly boost milk production.
Veterinarian Dr. Dinesh Gulia elaborated in detail on the care of lactating animals, hygiene practices, and the importance of producing clean and hygienic milk.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nilesh Sindhu provided information regarding major diseases affecting dairy animals—including their symptoms and control measures—and advised livestock farmers to ensure timely vaccination of their animals.
During the program, livestock farmers were also apprised of various schemes related to dairy development launched by the Government of Haryana. The livestock farmers attending the seminar discussed their concerns with the experts and received solutions to their problems. Following the seminar, mineral mixtures and other supplies were distributed to the farmers. On this occasion, Dr. Jitendra, Dr. Pushpendra Jakhar, Mr. Raman, and Mr. Ajay also encouraged the livestock farmers.
Public Relations Officer Dr. Nilesh Sindhu stated that the Haryana Animal Science Centre, Lakriya (Jhajjar), periodically conducts awareness campaigns among livestock farmers in rural areas to foster sensitivity towards animal husbandry among the younger generation. He added that such programs would continue to be organized regularly in the future as well.
