Karnal, July 03:- A team from the Karnal District Police's Cyber Police Station, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukesh Kumar, has arrested an accused individual in connection with a case of cyber fraud. The police also recovered a mobile phone used in the commission of the crime from the accused's possession. The arrested individual was produced before the honorable court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sarfaraz, son of Mohammad Zulfikar Ahmed, a resident of House No. 119/34, Khandari Bazar, Lalbagh, Police Station Kaiserbagh, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh).
The investigating officer stated that during interrogation, the accused revealed he had become acquainted with a young man from his neighborhood. This individual had tempted him with an offer of ?50,000 in exchange for providing a bank account in his own name—an account intended to receive funds obtained through cyber fraud.
Succumbing to greed, the accused handed over his bank account, the associated ATM card, and other banking credentials. The investigation revealed that a suspicious sum of approximately ?5.80 lakh had been deposited into the account. The accused admitted to receiving ?50,000 for this act, which he spent on personal expenses.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused knowingly provided his bank account to cyber criminals for financial gain; the account was used to facilitate transactions involving proceeds from cyber fraud. The police are now working to identify and arrest other individuals linked to this cyber gang.
