Chandigarh:- Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said here on Tuesday that the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has taken Karamvir Singh, a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, into its custody after he was deported from Canada. Karamvir Singh, a resident of village Bahadarke in Ludhiana, is the same person whose video of fugitive Anmol Bishnoi dancing with Punjabi singers Karan Aujla and Sharry Maan during a wedding event in Bakersfield, California, in 2023 had gone viral. He was arrested upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
The action came a few days after the Punjab Police, with the assistance of central agencies, extradited Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam, a key associate of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, from Moldova.
DGP Yadav said that Karamvir Singh had provided shelter and logistical support to Anmol Bishnoi in the United States. He was wanted in a case registered at Police Station State Crime, SAS Nagar (Mohali), under the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and Passport Act. The AGTF had issued a Look-Out Circular against him on September 3.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Pramod Ban said that Karamvir Singh has a long criminal record in Punjab, with at least five cases registered against him under sections relating to murder, attempt to murder, armed robbery, extortion and the Arms Act. He said further investigation is underway to trace his network, sources of funding and links with other gang members.
