Chandigarh, June 30:- Haryana Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh today called upon the Kurukshetra University administration to further strengthen its connection with the alumni network of the university and said that the alumni should be motivated to help meritorious students from economically weaker sections so that financial hardship does not become a barrier to any student in higher education.
The Governor was addressing a program organized after laying the foundation stone of the cafeteria to be built in the Rose Garden of Kurukshetra University through virtual medium from Lok Bhawan. Lady Governor Smt. Mitra Ghosh was also present on this occasion.
Emphasizing on the transformative power of education, Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh appealed to the university to identify meritorious students from underprivileged families, especially those from families where no one has pursued higher education for generations. He said that interested alumni should be encouraged to sponsor the education of such students so that they can fulfil their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the development of the society.
Referring to the vast potential of the alumni community of Kurukshetra University spread across the country and abroad, the Governor said that their contribution in areas like mentorship, scholarship, internship, research collaboration, and infrastructure development can play a transformative role in giving a new direction to the future of the university.
Prof. Ghosh also appreciated the generous contribution of Mr. Hemant Gupta and Mrs. Nalini Gupta, eminent alumni of the university, by donating US$ 5 lakh for the construction of a cafeteria. The Governor described it as a great example of the alumni's commitment and generosity towards their educational institution and said that this will inspire other alumni to contribute to the development of their alma mater.
New cafeteria becomes an example of women empowerment, Governor suggests handing over management to women
The Governor said that Kurukshetra University has emerged as a leading centre for women's higher education, with the highest number of female students on campus. In this context, he suggested that the proposed cafeteria be run entirely by a team of women. This will not only encourage women leadership and entrepreneurship but will also develop an effective and practical model of women empowerment.
Earlier, the Governor unveiled the foundation stone plaque of the cafeteria through virtual medium, released the project brochure and planted saplings along with Lady Governor Smt. Mitra Ghosh.
The program was also addressed by the Vice Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Prof. Somnath Sachdeva.
University Registrar Dr. Virendra Pal, KU Alumni Association Director Dr. Anil Mittal, Youth and Cultural Affairs Director Dr. Vivek Chawla and other officers and employees of the university were present on the occasion. University staff and members of the academic community also joined the program through virtual medium from the campus.
