Chandigarh, May 14- Haryana Government has extended the period of Karnal Smart City Project and its Project Management Consultancy till March 31, 2027. This will enable effective completion of ongoing projects and smooth transfer of assets created to the concerned departments. Similarly, Faridabad Smart City Project has also been extended till March 31, 2027.
This decision was informed in the meeting of the State Level High Powered Steering Committee held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Rastogi. The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing projects under Smart City Mission in Karnal and Faridabad.
The meeting was informed that this extension has been given as per the directions of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, so that the remaining projects which are nearing completion can be completed effectively and the citizens continue to get the benefit of modern urban infrastructure.
The Chief Secretary, while reviewing the physical and financial progress of the projects being implemented under the Smart City Mission in Karnal and Faridabad, appreciated the pace of development work being done in both the cities. He said that the Smart City Mission has strengthened the urban infrastructure through modern and technology-based development initiatives. This has improved civic amenities and improved the standard of living of the people.
He directed the officials to complete the remaining projects within the stipulated time and ensure effective utilization of the public assets created under the Mission.
Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department, Shri Ashok Kumar Meena informed the meeting that a total of 46 projects have been started by Faridabad Smart City Limited at a cost of Rs. 916.83 crore, out of which 32 projects have been completed. Similarly, 122 projects have been started by Karnal Smart City Limited at a cost of about Rs. 930 crore, out of which 86 projects have been completed.
He informed that many completed projects have also been handed over to the concerned departments for operation and maintenance. 23 projects have been handed over to the concerned agencies by Faridabad Smart City Limited and 83 projects by Karnal Smart City Limited.
It was also informed in the meeting that both the smart cities have successfully utilized the funds allocated under the Smart City Mission. Each city was jointly provided a total financial assistance of Rs. 980 crore by the Central Government and the Haryana Government in the ratio of 50:50.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Department, Shri A.K. Singh and Additional Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning Department, Shri Anurag Agarwal and other senior officials.
