Hoshiarpur- To ensure the availability of quality and timely agricultural inputs to farmers by the Punjab Government, state-level monitoring teams of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare conducted surprise inspections of fertilizer dealers' shops, warehouses, and plywood industrial units across all districts.
Under this campaign, the state-level team in Hoshiarpur district inspected the warehouses of fertilizer vendors in Garhshankar, Mahilpur, Chabbewal, Hoshiarpur, and Mukerian. Apart from this, plywood industrial units located in Bhunga and Hoshiarpur were also inspected.
The team observed that farmers, especially large-scale farmers, have already started stockpiling Urea fertilizer required for Kharif crops, which could lead to difficulties for small farmers. Farmers ought to purchase and use fertilizers in crops according to recommendations and actual necessity, so that in addition to reducing agricultural input costs, the soil, air, and water can be saved from pollution.
On this occasion, Dr. Amrik Singh stated that the consumption of Urea fertilizer is continuously increasing in Punjab, and it has been observed that the use of subsidized Urea fertilizer is possible in the plywood industry, which is illegal. He informed that inspections are being carried out across Punjab to stop the use of Urea fertilizer in these industrial units, and as part of this series, the inspection was conducted in Hoshiarpur district today.
