New Delhi:- A bus lost control and crashed at Orsa Ghat in Jharkhand, located on the border of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Nine people, including five women, died in the accident. About 70 passengers were injured. The deceased and the injured were residents of Piparsot village in Maharajganj area of ??Balrampur district.
All of them were going to attend an engagement ceremony in Lodh Phail, Jharkhand. The bus was carrying about 80 to 90 passengers, which was more than its capacity. The driver lost control of the bus due to brake failure. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
The accident took place on the road connecting Samari in Chhattisgarh and Mahu'dand in Jharkhand at around 4 pm on Sunday. Men and women from Piprasot, Maharajganj, Jhapra and Budhudih villages in Balrampur police station area were going from Gian Ganga Public High School in Balrampur to Lodh Falls in Mahu'dand police station area in Jharkhand to attend an engagement ceremony.
A speeding bus lost control and overturned at a bend in Orsaghat, about seven km from the Chhattisgarh border. The accident caused widespread commotion. Police and administrative teams from Samari police station in Balrampur district and Mahu'dand in Latehar district reached the spot on receiving information. By then, four women had died. More than 70 people were injured. They were taken to hospitals in Mahu'dand, Gumla and Latehar in Jharkhand by ambulances and private vehicles.
Two men died in Gumla Hospital and a woman in Latehar Sadar Hospital. Some of the injured are being taken to Ambikapur and Ranchi. The incident has created an atmosphere of mourning in Piprasot and Maharajganj villages. Public representatives from Balrampur area and relatives of the injured have started reaching the spot and hospitals.
