Jalandhar: After Amritsar, now around 11 schools in Jalandhar city have received threats to target them with bomb blasts on Monday morning. Due to the threat sent through email, there was a lot of panic in the schools and parents started gathering outside the schools to pick up their children. The four schools that initially received email threats include St. Joseph Convent School, IVY World School and Sanskriti KMV School and Shiv Jyoti School. However, later eight more schools have claimed to have received such threatening emails.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said, “There is no need to panic, so far 11 schools have received threatening emails. Our Sabiir Crime teams have registered a case. The teams are trying to find out the original source of the email.”
After the school authorities shared the email details, the police also swung into action and started a search operation in the respective schools. The schools were closed around 12 noon. The schools informed the parents about the early closure of the school by sending messages on the app and WhatsApp groups.
One such message sent to parents by St. Joseph’s Convent School read, “You are hereby informed that the school has declared a half-day holiday today, December 15. The dismissal time for all students will be at 11:55 am. Please do not pay attention to any rumours. The school premises have been thoroughly inspected by the concerned authorities, and no threat has been found.
As a precautionary measure, we are sending the children home early. All school buses and vans will run as usual. Parents who pick up their children in person can come comfortably at the scheduled time. Your children are safe with us.”
