Patiala, September 1, 2026:- SC/BC Teachers Union Punjab today on September 1, 2026, in protest against not giving due reservation quota to SC (25%) and BC (12%) categories in direct recruitment of 1013 lecturers, a strong protest was held in front of the DC office of District Patiala by burning effigies of Welfare Minister, Education Minister, Welfare Secretary and Education Secretary.
District General Secretary Gurpreet Singh Guru said that due reservation quota was not given in direct recruitment of 1013 lecturers by the officials of the Education Department under the anti-reservation mentality. For a smooth resolution of this issue, the State Committee has appointed Principal Secretary Welfare V.K. Several meetings were held with Meena and the officials of the Education Department.
In these meetings, the leaders proved with facts and gave evidence that only SC, BC candidates recruited on the basis of their merit in various subjects have been placed on the roster points, which is a blatant violation of the reservation policy, R.K. Sabharwal case and the instructions of the Welfare Department dated 10/7/1995.
Further, the officials of the Education Department said and admitted in the meeting of the Director and Special Secretary of the Welfare Department that we do not have complete records. So the question arises that how was the reserved quota shown as zero on the basis of incomplete records?
The officials of the Welfare Department are also not honestly fulfilling their responsibility to implement the reservation properly, make the roster register correct and prepare the inspection report by checking according to the rules. In protest of which, today at the district level, Welfare Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, Education Minister Harjot Bains, Welfare Secretary V.K. Meena and Education Secretary Mrs. Sonali Giri have been burnt.
He said that the anti-reservation face of the Punjab government and the education department has been exposed, due to which there is a huge protest against the Punjab government among the SC, BC sections of Punjab. He said that an amendment letter should be issued immediately regarding the provision of reserved quota in the recruitment of 1013 lecturers, so that the SC, BC sections can get justice. In case of not doing so, the struggle will be intensified.
At this time, leaders of various organizations, including Gurpreet Singh Guru, State Finance Secretary, SC/BC Teachers Union Punjab, Jagtar Singh Jaggi, Nabha General Secretary, SC/BC Teachers Union Patiala, Sukhpal Singh State Committee Member, Darshan Singh Main State President Punjab Valmiki Tirath Sri Amritsar Sahib, Ajaib Singh Bathoi State President NREGA Workers Front Punjab, Lakhwinder Singh CHT, Harpreet Singh, Surjit Singh, Amritpal Singh, Sandeep Kumar, Balkar Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, America Ram, Harvinder Singh CHT, Satpal Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Narinder Singh, Harinder Singh, Hardeep Singh, Malkit Singh, Harpreet Singh, Amrik Singh, Gurnaib Singh, Satbir Singh, Sandeep Singh, Deepak Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Sukhpal Singh Dafari Wala and Gurpal Singh participated in the struggle.
