Hoshiarpur: The district administration has made robust arrangements for the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation election process scheduled for Sunday (July 5), as directed by the State Election Commission. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ashika Jain stated that voting via EVMs will take place on Sunday from 8 AM to 4 PM.
Providing details on the arrangements made by the district administration to ensure a smooth and transparent voting process, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain informed that a total of 133,569 voters across 50 wards will cast their votes; 139 polling booths have been set up, and 219 candidates are contesting the election.
She stated that, in accordance with Election Commission guidelines, the counting of votes will commence at the respective polling booths immediately after voting concludes. She added that the district police have deployed the requisite number of security personnel to maintain law and order, ensuring the entire electoral process is conducted smoothly.
The Deputy Commissioner mentioned that voters could cast their votes using their voter cards. If a voter does not possess a voter card, they may vote by presenting an Aadhaar card, passport, driving license, PAN card with photograph, MGNREGA job card, ration card/blue card, arms license with photograph, pension document with photograph, freedom fighter identity card (with photograph), or a passbook with a photograph issued by a bank or post office.
Similarly, voters may cast their votes by presenting a health insurance smart card issued by the Ministry of Labour, an identity card issued to MPs or MLAs, a UDID card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, a departmental identity card issued to Central or State government officials/employees, or a photo identity card issued to students by recognized educational institutions.
She informed that polling parties and essential staff had been dispatched to their respective polling booths by Saturday afternoon.
