Nawanshahr, October 28 (Jatinder Pal Singh Kaler):- In view of major festivals of the year, including Diwali, Karwa Chauth, Ahoi Ashtami and Dhanteras, demand for food items increases significantly in the markets. Keeping in mind the need to prevent adulteration and protect public health, prominent social worker Jathedar Surjit Singh Dobhali has urged the Health Department to launch a special campaign during the festive season to check the quality of sweets and other food items, so that the sale of adulterated products can be strictly curbed.

Jathedar Surjit Singh Dobhali said that demand for sweets and other food items rises considerably during major festivals such as Diwali. At such times, the sale of adulterated khoya, ghee and oil can pose a serious threat to people's health. Strict action should be taken against those who play with people's health for the sake of profit. He also appealed to sweet shop owners to use pure milk, ghee, oil and khoya in the preparation of sweets and ensure compliance with quality standards.

Festivals are occasions for sharing happiness, and negligence of any kind should not turn people's celebrations into health-related problems. Advising the general public to remain alert, he said that while purchasing food items, people should carefully check their quality, packaging, expiry date and manufacturing details. Health should not be compromised merely to save money by choosing cheaper products. People should prefer reliable shops and stores and always obtain a bill, so that the concerned seller can be held accountable if any product is found to be defective.
