Hoshiarpur:- A special meeting of the Punjab Pensioners Welfare Association (Regd.), Tehsil Hoshiarpur, was held at the Pensioner Bhawan, Mini Secretariat, Hoshiarpur, under the chairmanship of Tehsil President Shamsher Singh Dhami, following the call given by the Punjab Mulazim and Pensioners Sanjha Front and Sanjha Mulazim Manch, District Hoshiarpur. Pensioner leaders from various departments participated in large numbers. Balvir Singh Saini, Additional General Secretary of the Confederation, attended as a special guest.
While releasing the meeting's proceedings to the press, District Press Secretary Balvir Singh Saini stated that speakers strongly condemned the government’s adamant attitude regarding the non-payment of the 18% D.A. (Dearness Allowance). The speakers alleged that this is the first government that has failed to implement the full report of the Sixth Pay Commission, due to which pensioners who retired before January 1, 2016, are not receiving pensions based on the 2.59 multiplication factor, and 37 other allowances are also not being provided.
The leaders further pointed out that ad-hoc employees are not being regularized, the Old Pension Scheme is not being restored, and decisions passed by honorable courts in favor of employees and pensioners are not being implemented by the government due to malicious intent. Consequently, growing resentment among employees and pensioners is natural.
Therefore, it was unanimously decided that the residence of former Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa will be gheraoed (surrounded) on July 11. It was also decided that pensioners from Hoshiarpur district will participate in large numbers in the state-level rally to be held in Mohali on July 17, 2026.
Prominent participants included Association Patron Kirpal Singh, District Secretary Manjit Singh Saini, Finance Secretary Sudesh Kumar, Tehsil General Secretary Mohinder Kumar Mehta, Finance Secretary Dinesh Pathania, Mohinder Singh Heer, Om Singh Stiana, Jasbir Singh Parmar, Shakti Kumar, and Gurcharan Singh. The proceedings were conducted by District General Secretary Manjit Singh Saini.
