Nawanshahr: Today, following the call of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a massive protest was held outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner, S.B.S. Nagar, to protest against the atrocities committed against farmers during their recent march towards the Governor's House in Chandigarh. Following this, a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner.
State Committee member of Kirti Kisan Union Bhupinder Singh Waraich, National Kisan Union leader Nirmal Singh Aujla, BKU (Rajewal) leader Santokh Singh, and All India Kisan Sabha leader Jaswinder Singh Bhangal stated that the Central Government is openly discriminating against Punjab. They strongly condemned the termination of permanent membership from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). They asserted that Punjab has the right over its waters and that the issue of water sharing must be resolved based on the riparian principle. They demanded that Chandigarh and Punjab University be immediately handed over to Punjab.
Furthermore, they demanded the rollback of increased prices for diesel, petrol, and LPG, the enactment of a law to provide MSP on all crops, and immediate compensation for crop damage caused by floods and rain. They also demanded the withdrawal of the Seed Bill 2025 and the Electricity Bill 2025. Warning the people of Punjab, they said that the BJP aims to capture Punjab by any means necessary, following the same fascist agenda as in other states, which the people of Punjab will never tolerate. They emphasized that the Punjabi language, culture, and minorities are under threat and that since no political party is addressing Punjab's real issues, the people must fight this battle themselves. They criticized the Punjab government for colluding with the Centre and urged farmers and all sections of society to unite and intensify the struggle.
The protest was also addressed by Tarsem Singh Bains, Surinder Singh Mehirampur, Kulvir Singh Shahpur, Dasondha Singh, and Harpal Singh Kukarmazara, among others.
