Una, July 4: The Fisheries Department in Una district has taken effective action against those selling fish illegally during the closed season, collecting a total fine of ?8,000 across five cases of rule violations.
Vivek Sharma, Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department, stated that a special departmental squad conducted surprise inspections of fish-selling outlets as part of an intensive drive across various areas of the district. During the campaign, five instances of illegal fish sales were detected, and fines totaling ?8,000 were collected on the spot in accordance with regulations.
He explained that the 'closed season' is currently in effect, coinciding with the fish breeding period. Fishing and the sale of fish are prohibited during this time to conserve fishery resources and safeguard the natural breeding process.
He emphasized that the objective of this departmental action is to ensure the conservation of fishery resources during the breeding season; consequently, any violation of the rules will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Vivek Sharma stated that the cooperation of all citizens, traders, and fish sellers is crucial for the conservation of fishery resources. He appealed to all concerned parties to strictly adhere to the prescribed regulations during the closed season.
He added that illegal activities in the district are being continuously monitored, and such surprise inspections and enforcement drives will continue in the future. Strict action, in accordance with the law, will be taken against those who violate the rules.
