Haryana/Hisar: Hansi district's first district-level Republic Day celebration was held in a grand manner in the premises of the local Government College. Union Minister Manohar Lal attended as the chief guest, hoisting the national flag and taking the salute at the grand parade. Beforehand, he paid homage to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Martyrs' Memorial.
Chief guest Union Minister Manohar Lal, while extending his heartfelt greetings to the residents of the district on the 77th Republic Day, said that on this day 76 years ago, a new sun of republic had risen in our country and we got the honour of being citizens of the world's largest republic. He said that about two and a half years before 26 January 1950, we had broken the shackles of slavery and breathed the air of freedom, that is why many memories of the freedom movement are associated with Republic Day. Saluting the immortal soldiers, brave martyrs and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence, he said that the nation will always be indebted to them.
Mr. Manohar Lal said that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had announced the formation of Hansi as a district at a development rally held in Hansi on December 16, 2025. Following that announcement, Hansi became the 23rd district in Haryana. The people of Hansi had been demanding its district status for years, and with this, their demand has been fulfilled. He said, "I feel a great sense of pride hoisting the flag in Hansi, the 23rd newly formed district. I am happy that I had the opportunity to be among all of you on this first Republic Day celebration after the district was created."
Union Minister Manohar Lal said that Hansi has a glorious history. It is a land of heroes and once known as the threshold of India, Hansi witnessed the sacrifice of many great people during the First War of Independence in 1857. He said that in 1857, Lala Hukam Chand and Mirza Munir Beg of Hansi were hanged in front of their houses by the British rulers. Their torture did not stop there; for insulting the religion, the British buried Lala Hukam Chand and burned Mirza Munir Beg. The Lal Sadak here still bears witness to the massacre by the British. The British had many freedom fighters crushed here by the Girdi Pheri. He said that Hansi has a glorious history; the city was once known as Asi and Asigarh. During the reign of Emperor Harshvardhan, Hansi was the capital of the Sutlej region. By 1838, it was also known as the threshold of India.
The chief guest further stated that the country and the state of Haryana are progressing rapidly. He said that our country currently ranks third in terms of metro rail network, behind China and the United States. He stated that in the next two years, India will surpass the United States in terms of metro rail network expansion.
Union Minister Manohar Lal said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision is to make India a global medical hub so that every sick person can access medical care within their own reach. To achieve this objective, medical colleges are being opened in every district of Haryana. Following the example of other districts, a medical college will be established in the newly formed Hansi district. Currently, 17 medical colleges have been established in the state, and three are under construction.
The Union Minister stated that the Central and Haryana governments have implemented numerous welfare schemes to empower women. He added that under the Deendayal Lado Laxmi Yojana, every eligible woman is provided with an amount of ?2,100 per month. So far, ?441 crore has been disbursed to 864,000 sisters and daughters under this scheme. To achieve women's economic independence, 234,000 women have been designated as Lakhpati Didis.
He said that to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Fit India, Hit India vision, the Haryana government is paying special attention to sports and athletes. Gyms are being opened in every village for the convenience of athletes. So far, 382 indoor gyms have been opened in rural areas.
He said that in these 11 years, there has been rapid expansion in the fields of electricity and solar energy. He said that a logistics hub is being developed in Narnaul, a manufacturing cluster in Hisar, and an electronic park in Sohna. The government has created a new and unique model of e-governance that has eliminated the business of middlemen. Today, the benefits of all government schemes and services are reaching people from the comfort of their homes.
