Dirba/Sangrur, August 29:- Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today visited various villages of Dirba constituency and handed over cheques for development works to the Panchayats in the village assemblies. During this, he directly interacted with the villagers and took stock of the current situation regarding development works and also discussed the remaining demands.
Talking to reporters, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that during the previous governments, ministers or MLAs used to distribute cheques by calling them in their offices or by organizing big functions in the villages, on which government money was also spent. He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has a different approach. The government directly talks with the people by sitting in the village assemblies and grants are being provided for development works as per the needs and demands of the people.
He said that today, cheques were given to the panchayats of various villages of the constituency including village Baghraul, Safipur Kalan, Safipur Khurd, Munshiwala, Dayalgarh Camper and Janal for development works. He said that along with making Punjab ‘Rangla Punjab’, the government is also making special efforts to preserve the old heritage of the villages. Under this, a cheque of Rs 11 lakh was given to the panchayat of village Khanpur Fakiran for the development of the heritage look and facilities of the village.
The Finance Minister said that a grant of about Rs 45 lakh was given to the bus stand of village Safipur Kalan earlier also and keeping in mind the demand of the people, a cheque of Rs 45 lakh was again given to the panchayat of Safipur Kalan today.
He said that grant cheques worth Rs 35 lakh were given to village Baghraul, Rs 19 lakh to Munshiwala, Rs 47 lakh to Safipur Khurd, Rs 49 lakh to Dayalgarh Camper and Rs 46 lakh to Janal.
He said that yesterday too, grant cheques worth Rs 45 lakh were given to village Dhandial and Rs 20 lakh to women.
The Finance Minister said that development work in the villages of the constituency is going on at a war footing. He asked the Sarpanches of the respective villages to start development work immediately by utilizing the grants. He said that various development works including construction of roads in the constituency are also going on in full swing.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab government is issuing grants for the development of villages without any political discrimination and development works are being carried out as per the needs of each village.
On this occasion, OSD Tapinder Singh Sohi, Chairperson of Market Committee Dirba Jasvir Kaur Shergill, Sarpanch Ravinder Singh Mann, Sarpanch Garib Das Safipur Kalan, Panchs and Sarpanches of the area and other dignitaries were present.
