Wavre/Belgium:- Germany have won the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup title in Belgium. In the final match, defending champions Germany put up an impressive performance to defeat Spain 1-0. Germany’s Michael Struthoff scored the decisive goal in the 44th minute. With this victory, Germany have won the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup title for the fourth time and equalled Pakistan’s record of four titles.
Germany had previously won the World Cup in 2002, 2006 and 2023. Spain, meanwhile, had reached the final for the first time since 1998 and for the third time overall, but their dream of winning the title remained unfulfilled. During the match, Spain made every effort to equalise, and the coach even removed the goalkeeper in the final minutes, but the German defence did not give them any opportunity.
Among the other matches of the tournament, particularly the thrilling bronze-medal match, Argentina defeated co-hosts the Netherlands 2-1 to secure third place. Argentina captain Matias Rey scored in the 59th minute. In the semi-final matches, Spain had defeated the Netherlands 4-3, while Germany had beaten Argentina 2-1.
Women’s Category: In the women’s final, Argentina ended the Netherlands’ run of three consecutive titles and won the championship.
