Fatehabad, January 29: Farmer organizations have demanded immediate financial assistance from the government for farmers affected by the heavy damage to crops caused by recent rains, hailstorms, and cold wave in the district. Today, a delegation of the district unit of the Pagri Sambhal Jatta Kisan Sangharsh Samiti submitted a memorandum to the district administration addressed to the Chief Minister. A delegation of farmers, led by District President Omprakash Hasanga, reached the Deputy Commissioner's office.
In the absence of the DC, the farmers submitted the memorandum to the Tehsildar. The farmer organization demanded that a special crop assessment be conducted immediately in the areas affected by rain and hailstorms. They also demanded fair and prompt compensation for the crops damaged by hailstorms and cold weather.
The delegation included several senior office-bearers of the organization, including Kamal Barad, Block President, Bhuna, Manpreet Vicky, State Vice President, Sukha Bhandal, Joint Secretary, Fatehabad, Gurpreet Khalsa, City President, Fatehabad, Chhabil Das Dhani Chhatriyan, Atmaram, Radheshyam, Jassa Sadhanwas, and others. The leaders of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti said that the natural calamity has broken the backs of the farmers.
If the government does not immediately order a special crop assessment and initiate the compensation process, the Sangharsh Samiti will be forced to formulate a future strategy and intensify the agitation.
