Ambala, February 10:- For the past several days, farmers have been sitting on a dharna on the Shamli road passing by Speda village near Ambala Cantonment to press their demands. Today, a Maha Panchayat was held by the farmers regarding their demands, in which many leaders including Gurnam Singh Chaduni of the Bharatiya Kisan Union participated.
The farmers said that all the residents and farmers of Speda and the surrounding villages (Kapuri, Ratanheri, Sahibpura etc.) are sitting on a dharna. They have been requesting the administration for a long time about the basic problems related to their fields, villages and main roads, but till date no concrete solution has been found. The farmers are forced to hold this peaceful dharna. They demanded that suitable land be made available to connect Speda village with Shamli Road and Ring Road, connectivity be established between the entire area and easy transportation be provided for the common people.
Service lanes should be provided to reach the farms and lands near Ring Road and Shamli Road so as to ensure safe and smooth access to their farms. The government road leading to Kapoori village has been closed due to the road project due to which the farmers are not getting any alternative route to reach their farms. This situation is very serious and needs to be resolved immediately. It is not legally permissible to destroy government or traditional rural roads for any road, ring road or highway project unless they are replaced with service lanes, alternative routes or streets.
Disruption of evacuation due to road construction is against public safety and public interest. These problems are not just the concern of an individual or a village but are the collective concerns of hundreds of farmers and villagers of the entire area. If no immediate solution is found, the administration will be responsible for escalating the agitation. The farmers said that these legitimate and legal demands of the villagers sitting on the dharna should be taken immediate cognizance and time-bound action should be taken in writing to the villagers and the surrounding villages.
