Ratia, April 23: On the occasion of World Book Day, an essay writing competition was successfully organized at Shaheed Davinder Singh Government Post-Graduate College for Women, Ratia, under the joint aegis of the Punjabi Sahitya Sabha and the Nirala Hindi Sahitya Parishad. The objective of this program was to awaken an interest in reading and learning among the students and to raise awareness regarding the importance of books.
Presiding over the event, Acting Principal Sarabjit Singh stated in his address that books are a human being's true friends. Inspiring the students, he remarked that through books, the holistic development of knowledge, values, and personality becomes possible. He further noted that even in today's digital age, the significance of books has not diminished; rather, they provide us with the right direction and the capacity to think with depth.
The students participated enthusiastically in the competition and presented their thoughts on various topics in an impressive manner. The theme for the essay writing competition was based on contemporary issues. The panel of judges comprised Dr. Balkar Singh, Dr. Swati Singh, and Prof. Bindu. They evaluated the participants' writing based on expression, clarity of content, and linguistic accuracy.
In the competition results, Chhanto Rani, a final-year M.A. Hindi student, secured the first position. Arshdeep Kaur, a second-year B.A. student, took the second place, while Monica Rani, a first-year B.Com. student, secured the third position. The winning students were honored with certificates.
At the conclusion of the program, Dr. Balkar Singh of the Punjabi Department extended his vote of thanks to all the participants and pledged to continue organizing such educational and literary activities in the future. This event proved to be a significant step towards the intellectual and creative development of the students.
