Una, December 3- The Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Una, organized a district-level program at Prem Ashram, Una, to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities. District Welfare Officer Awas Pandit inaugurated the program and provided information on the welfare schemes being implemented by the state government for children with disabilities.
He specifically shared details of the Disability Scholarship Scheme, which provides scholarships to students with a disability of 40 percent or more. Under the scheme, students from grades 1 to 5 at the pre-matriculation level receive a monthly scholarship of ?625 and a hostel allowance from grades 1 to 10. A monthly scholarship of ?750 is provided for grades 6 to 8, and a monthly scholarship of ?950 is provided for grades 9 to 10. Additionally, scholarships and hostel allowances are also provided at higher education levels, including diploma, BA, BCom, MA, MSc, MCom, MEd, BE, BTech, MBBS, LLB, and BEd.
He explained that under this scheme, scholarships are provided to students with disabilities whose disability is 40 percent or more. A monthly scholarship of ?625 is provided for classes 1st to 5th, and a monthly hostel allowance of ?1,875 is provided for classes 1st to 10th.
A monthly scholarship of ?1,250 and a hostel allowance of ?2,500 is provided for 11th and 12th grades. After 10th and 12th grade, diploma courses, BA, BSc, and BCom are provided with a monthly scholarship of ?1,875 and a hostel allowance of ?3,750. Additionally, MA, MSc, MCom, and M.Ed. are provided with a monthly scholarship of ?2,250 and a hostel allowance of ?3,750. BE, BTech, MBBS, LLB, and BEd are provided with a monthly scholarship of ?3,750 and a hostel allowance of ?500.
Dance and painting competitions were also organized at the event, in which children from Prem Ashram, Una, and Aashray Dehlan participated. The children who participated in the competitions, as well as those from other schools, were honored with mementos.
On this occasion, Tehsil Welfare Officer Una Jitendra Sharma, Tehsil Welfare Officer Amb Rakesh Kumar, Tehsil Welfare Officer Bangana Vivek Kumar, Principal Sister Sanjana of Prem Ashram, other officers and employees of the Welfare Department, teachers from Aashray Dehla and Prem Ashram, and parents of the children were present.
