Patiala, September 13:- A virtual meeting of the Patiala district unit of the SC/BC Teachers Union Punjab was held under the leadership of state general secretary Lachhman Singh Nabipur, in which it was decided that on September 15, 2026, a large number of activists from Patiala district would participate in the strong protest to be held by the organisation against the non-provision of the due reserved quota for SC (25%) and BC (12%) categories in the direct recruitment of 1013 lecturers, including the gherao of the office of the Director Social Justice Empowerment and Minorities Department, Phase 1, Mohali, and the burning of effigies of Welfare Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur and the Director Welfare Department.
State General Secretary Lachhman Singh Nabipur and State Finance Secretary Gurpreet Singh Guru said that the due reserved quota was not provided in the direct recruitment of 1013 lecturers by officials of the Education Department under an inferior mindset against reservation.
Several meetings were held by the state committee with Principal Secretary Welfare V.K. Meena and officials of the Education Department for an amicable resolution of this issue. In these meetings, the leaders proved with facts and presented evidence that SC and BC candidates recruited on the basis of their merit in different subjects have been adjusted against roster points, which is a blatant violation of the reservation policy, the R.K. Sabharwal case and the instructions of the Welfare Department dated 10/7/1995.
Furthermore, officials of the Education Department admitted in a meeting with the Director and Special Secretary of the Welfare Department that they did not have complete records. This raises the question of how the reserved quota was shown as zero on the basis of incomplete records.
The officials of the Welfare Department are also not honestly discharging their responsibility of ensuring proper implementation of reservation, correctly maintaining the roster register and preparing an inspection report after conducting an investigation as per the rules.
In protest against this, effigies of Welfare Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, Education Minister Harjot Bains, Welfare Secretary V.K. Meena and Education Secretary Smt. Sonali Giri were burnt at the district level on September 1, 2026. But the Punjab Government and officials of the Welfare Department and Education Department are not paying any heed to the issue.
Therefore, taking the struggle forward, on September 15, 2026, the office of the Director Welfare Department Punjab, Phase-1, Mohali, will be gheraoed and a protest demonstration will be held by burning the effigies of Welfare Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur and Director Welfare Department Smt. Vimmy Bhullar.
The leaders demanded that an immediate correction letter be issued regarding providing the due reserved quota in the recruitment of 1013 lecturers so that people belonging to the SC and BC categories can get justice. If this is not done, the struggle will be intensified further.
