Nawanshahr:- Under the Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY), a meeting was held by the District Social Security Department under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh with officials of various departments, heads of implementing agencies, and representatives of voluntary organizations, regarding the works to be undertaken for the welfare of senior citizens of the district and for conducting various activities across the district.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh reviewed the works being carried out for the welfare of senior citizens. In this regard, District Social Security Officer Naresh Kumar informed that the department will undertake activities related to healthcare of senior citizens, providing them with medical services, and improving their economic status by involving them in economic activities.
As part of these activities, at the district level, the Health Department will conduct assessment camps during health camps to assess senior citizens for cataract surgery. Thereafter, all expenses incurred before and after the operation will be borne by the government.
Among other services related to senior citizens, the AYUSH Department will organize yoga camps at the district level. Arrangements will be made for training senior citizens in activities such as weaving chairs, basket making, and cloth making at old age homes, panchayat buildings, community centers, and other public places.
In addition, awareness camps will be organized at the block and district levels in the interest of senior citizens to provide information regarding legal services. Awareness programs related to digital and financial literacy will also be conducted for senior citizens.
