Chandigarh, 26 August: Kendriya Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (Regd.) has strongly condemned decision of Punjabi University, Patiala to stop Punjabi subject in 5th semester of B.B.A. Part III. Sabha has demanded that Punjabi should be immediately made part of this syllabus again and teaching of Punjabi should be ensured as compulsory subject in all courses at graduation level.
In a press statement issued from here, President of Sabha Darshan Buttar, General Secretary Sushil Dusanja, Senior Vice President Makhan Singh Kuhar and Office Secretary Deep Devinder Singh said that during last years also Punjabi University had removed Punjabi subject from second and third part of BCA and some other courses. Due to struggle done by Punjabi lovers, literary organizations and Sahitya Sabhas, University had to take back this decision. They said that now taking such decision again is matter of concern.
They said that main objective of Punjabi University is development and promotion of Punjabi language, literature and culture. Therefore instead of continuously removing Punjabi from various courses of University, scope of its study should be increased. Mother tongue Punjabi is not just a subject, but important basis of linguistic and cultural identity of Punjab.
Office bearers of Sabha demanded from University Administration that Punjabi should be immediately re-implemented in 5th semester of B.B.A. Part III and it should be made part of syllabus again in other courses also from where Punjabi has been removed. They said that ensuring teaching of Punjabi as compulsory subject in all courses at graduation level is also linguistic responsibility of Punjabi University.
They appealed to Punjabi lovers, writers, literary organizations and literary societies to raise joint voice in favour of Punjabi and make united efforts to get this decision of University reversed and to strengthen place of Punjabi in higher education.
