Hoshiarpur:- District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, in exercise of the powers vested in her under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, has imposed a complete ban on the manufacturing, selling, storing, purchasing and supplying of strings made of nylon, synthetic plastic for flying kites/dolls within the limits of Hoshiarpur district. This ban will not apply to thread strings. These orders will remain in force till February 9, 2026.
In the orders issued by the District Magistrate, it has been stated that the string being used for flying kites/dolls is made of synthetic plastic instead of cotton string and is very strong, non-degradable and non-breakable. This string cuts the hands and fingers of the kite/doll flying people while flying. There have been many accidents involving two-wheeler drivers getting their throats and ears cut, flying birds getting trapped and dying due to this string.
Apart from this, when the birds trapped in the string die and hang on the trees, the environment is also polluted with bad smell. Thus, when this string made of synthetic/plastic is used for flying kites/dolls, it proves to be fatal for human lives and birds. Keeping these facts in mind, there was an urgent need to take this step to ban the storage, sale and purchase of China string made of synthetic/plastic.
