Chandigarh, September 12, 2026:- A three-day programme on “Holistic Health and Integrated Amrita Meditation” was organised in six government colleges of Chandigarh from September 9 to 11, 2026. The programme was conducted under the supervision of the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Youth Empowerment Group of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, and was conducted through the NSS units of the six participating colleges. The initiative aimed to create awareness among students and faculty members about the importance of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and to promote practical methods for stress management, relaxation, emotional balance, concentration and self-awareness.
The sessions were conducted by Shri Narendra Anand, National Coordinator and Associate Professor, and Ms. Shweta Anand, Associate Professor and National Coordinator, Youth Empowerment Group, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala. Through interactive and experiential sessions, the resource persons engaged students and faculty members in various activities aimed at promoting physical energy, mental relaxation and emotional well-being.
The sessions included various exercises related to boosting energy, reducing stress, relaxation and relief from emotional tension. Through these, participants were given experience of simple practices that they could adopt in their daily lives. Participants were also introduced to the Integrated Amrita Meditation Technique. This technique is based on the teachings and guidance of the internationally renowned humanitarian Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma). The objective of this technique is to promote mental equanimity, reduce anxiety and anger, and improve concentration, awareness and emotional stability.

The programme was organised in the following colleges under the leadership of the respective Principals:
Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Anita Kushal.
Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Rama Arora.
Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Beenu Dogra.
Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Nisha Aggarwal.
Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Sangam Kapoor.
Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Sapna Nanda.

Students and faculty members of all six colleges participated enthusiastically in the programme. The participants actively took part in interactive activities and meditation practices and understood the importance of incorporating physical activity, relaxation, meditation and emotional awareness into their daily lifestyle.
The three-day initiative provided students and faculty members an opportunity to reflect on the growing importance of mental well-being, emotional resilience and stress management in academic and professional life. The experiential nature of the sessions encouraged participants to adopt simple and sustainable practices to maintain inner balance and overall well-being.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the Directorate of Higher Education, Chandigarh, towards the holistic development of students and faculty members. Under this, along with academic development, initiatives promoting health, mindfulness, emotional well-being and inner harmony were also encouraged.
