Una, March 18: The census is the nation's most critical statistical exercise; its data serves as the bedrock for formulating development plans and empowers the government to craft effective policies in the public interest. This observation was made by Jatin Lal, Deputy Commissioner of Una, while addressing trainees during a training program organized for the successful conduct of Census-2027.
He explained that the objective of this training program is to thoroughly familiarize employees with modern technologies, digital tools, and the census process itself, thereby ensuring that the entire operation is executed in a smooth and error-free manner. He urged the trainees to discharge their responsibilities with the utmost seriousness, dedication, integrity, and vigilance, ensuring that accurate data regarding every individual and household in the field is duly recorded.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the census is not merely an administrative task but also a profound opportunity to contribute significantly to nation-building. He called upon all officers and employees to work with a spirit of teamwork and to dedicate their full efforts toward making Census-2027 a resounding success; he further stressed the importance of executing tasks within stipulated timelines while maintaining interpersonal tact and professionalism during fieldwork.
**Practical Exercises Conducted on Map Creation and Area Demarcation**
On Wednesday—the final day of the training program—a practical session was organized in the computer laboratory of the Degree College, Una. During this session, trainees underwent practical exercises covering various procedures related to census operations, thereby equipping them to perform their duties with full competence at the grassroots level.
Throughout the training, officials provided participants with instruction on the usage of the mobile application and the Census Management and Monitoring System. This training included practical exercises focused on map creation, area demarcation, and the listing of households. Furthermore, detailed information was provided regarding the door-to-door survey process, data collection methodologies, data entry via mobile apps and tablets, and the critical importance of gathering error-free information, thereby enabling the trainees to effectively handle and resolve any challenges they may encounter in the field. Speaking on this occasion, Ashish Chauhan, Joint Director of the Directorate of Census Operations, Himachal Pradesh, stated that the Census of India 2027 is set to be the country's first fully digital census; to this end, personnel across the nation are currently receiving hands-on training in the use of mobile apps, geo-tagging, and data collection.
He further informed that training for field enumerators and supervisors is scheduled to take place from June 1 to June 15, followed by the proposed completion of the house-listing exercise from June 16 to July 15.
At the conclusion of the training program, participants shared their experiences, describing the initiative as extremely beneficial. They noted that the practical sessions were particularly helpful in enabling them to grasp the intricacies of the work.
