Hoshiarpur: The Kathgarh police have registered a case against former Chancellor Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura in connection with a major financial scam involving Lamrin Tech Skills University, Railmajra. FIR No. 0076 has been lodged based on a complaint filed by the university's owner and promoter, Nirmal Singh Raiat.
The police have registered the case under Sections 316(4) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This action was taken following directives from the SSP of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and after obtaining a legal opinion.
According to the complaint, serious allegations of misappropriation of university funds and fraud have been leveled against Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura. It is alleged that fraudulent paperwork amounting to ?13.46 crore and financial irregularities totaling ?36 crore were committed. Furthermore, out of ?5 crore received from the NSDC, ?1.10 crore was transferred from the university's ICICI Bank account to a private HDFC Bank account.
The complaint further alleges that fraud was committed during the purchase of 51 acres and 19 marlas of land adjacent to the university, and that his wife, Parvinder Kaur, was appointed as Vice-Chancellor in violation of the University Act.
The investigation into the matter has been entrusted to ASI Sandeep Kumar. The police have commenced the examination of documentary evidence, and additional sections of the law may be added during the course of the investigation.
Following the revelation of this case, discussions within the education sector have intensified, and an atmosphere of concern prevails among the university's students and staff.
