Patiala: Today, the Patiala district unit of the Bharati Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) concluded its indefinite protest following a large gathering outside the Deputy Commissioner's office and announced the next phase of their program. Briefing the press, District General Secretary Sukhminder Singh Baran stated that several district-related demands were resolved during meetings held with district administrative officials on September 11 and September 14, 2026.
District SSP Harmandeep Hans assured the farmers that the cases registered against them at various times would be withdrawn. Additionally, in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, ADC Ms. Anuprita Johal visited the protest site and committed to resolving the district-related demands within a period of 10 days. District Senior Vice President Jagdeep Singh Chhanna, Balraj Joshi, Jagmel Singh Gajewas, Avtar Singh Burarh, Makhan Singh Kalwanu, Bharpur Singh Rajewas, Varinder Singh Kakrala, Jaswinder Singh Saluwal, Avtar Singh Fagganmajra, Gurvir Singh Nandpur Kesho, Gurdeep Singh Sanaur, Hardeep Singh Droli, Prem Lalochhi, Davinder Singh Seel, Gurmeet Singh Chamaru, and Baljit Singh Kalhe Majra presented their views.
Announcing the next course of action, a complete *gherao* (siege/protest blockade) of the Deputy Commissioner of Patiala was declared for September 24, 2026. Opposing the policies of both the Punjab government and the Modi government, the speakers demanded the cancellation of the India-US trade agreement, the waiver of loans for farmers and laborers, the restoration of ownership rights for cultivators, the enactment of a law guaranteeing MSP (Minimum Support Price), and the implementation of the Public Distribution System.
