Karnal, December 31:- Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh said that the general public in the district should be made aware of the SC-ST Act. The concerned officers should identify the areas where such cases are more prevalent. Special awareness camps and workshops should be organized in such places so that harmony prevails in society and people are aware of the law.
Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh was giving these instructions at a meeting of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee constituted for the prevention of atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, held in the auditorium of the Mini Secretariat on Wednesday. To bring transparency and efficiency in the committee's work, he instructed the District Welfare Officer (DWO) to prepare official identity cards for all the committee members. This will prevent members from facing any inconvenience during field visits or inspections.
In the meeting, Uttam Singh instructed that the cases falling under the purview of the Act should be investigated with complete impartiality and sensitivity. He said that no innocent person should face injustice and that the genuine victim should receive justice on time. He instructed that the assistance amount given to the victims in the cases registered under the Act should be disbursed as soon as possible. He instructed the District Welfare Officer that if additional funds are required for the payment, a budget demand should be immediately made from the department so that there is no delay in providing assistance to any victim.
