Phagwara- The police here have arrested a person based on inputs received from intelligence agencies. A police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala, Gaurav Tura IPS, has detained a person working as a sanitation worker in Kapurthala Army Cantonment on charges of espionage.
Officials said that the accused has been identified as Raja and is a resident of Mushkved in Kapurthala district, who was detained near the Y-point of Kanjali during routine patrolling and checking.
According to the SSP, Raja was working as a private sanitary worker inside the Army Cantonment on contract basis. At the time of his arrest, the police searched his mobile phone and allegedly found evidence of communication with contacts in Pakistan. The investigating officers claim that the accused was sending pictures of restricted areas of the Army and sharing sensitive information related to military establishments.
The SSP further said that there are indications that the accused was allegedly receiving money from Pakistani handlers in exchange for the information supplied. The officers described the case as a serious breach of national security, saying that the information disseminated in this regard could jeopardize the security, integrity and operational confidentiality of defence establishments.
