Mumbai: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has allegedly received a death threat and a ransom demand of Rs 10 crore from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The threat was sent through a voice note from a registered phone number in the United States, an NDTV report said.
Mumbai Police has started an investigation into the matter, with the Crime Branch taking over the investigation.
Sources said the police are coordinating with US law enforcement agencies to trace the source of the number and identify the persons involved. Officials are examining technical evidence including call data records and digital footprints to confirm the authenticity of the threat.
It is expected that security around the actor will be reviewed as a precaution. The Bishnoi gang has been involved in high-profile extortion and threat cases involving celebrities in the past.
