Chandigarh, October 26: Local residents and party workers of Dhanas Milk Colony, led by Aam Aadmi Party Chandigarh State Joint Secretary Kuldeep Singh Kuki, held a protest march on foot against the negligence of BJP-ruled corporation and administration. People expressed strong anger over broken roads, widespread dirt, neglected parks and false promises made by BJP.
State President Vijaypal Singh, State Secretary General Omkar Singh Aulakh, State Media Incharge Vikrant A Tanwar, PP Ghai, Harjinder Bawa, Councilor Jasbir Singh Laddi, Lalit Mohan, Des Raj (SC Cell President), Shahdab Rathi, Naresh Garg, Dilshan, Jagmohan, Vijay, Gulshan Verma, Amanpreet, Suresh Jain, Sushil Kumar, Yogesh Dhingra, and many senior leaders and local residents were present in this protest.
State President Vijaypal Singh said that the poor condition of Dhanas is a symbol of BJP's failure, corruption and arrogance. He said that Aam Aadmi Party councilors had earlier raised this issue in the Corporation House that the construction of V-5 and V-6 roads should be given priority because they go directly to people's homes. But instead of solving the problem, the BJP mayor, under political pressure, left the marshals to the Aam Aadmi Party councillors, due to which several councillors were injured and they were dragged out of the house just because they had raised the voice of the people.
He said, “Mayor Sahiba is currently on a visit to Dubai, before that she had visited Russia. The question is who is paying for these foreign trips? Is it the public’s tax money, the administration’s, the corporation’s or is it being spent for some personal gain? Public money should be spent on the city’s broken roads, filth and basic amenities, not on someone’s foreign trips and five-star fun. It is very shameful that the mayor of a city whose roads are in ruins is busy disappearing abroad.”
He further said, “It is mandatory to have a meeting of the Corporation House every month, but this month’s meeting was cancelled because the Mayor is going on a Dubai tour. Now the next meeting will be held next month, which will delay the problems of the public for another month. This is the height of irresponsibility. Apart from this, the Chief Engineer was suddenly removed, at whose behest and why? Who will fix these broken roads now? All these incidents prove that accountability has ended in the BJP-ruled corporation and the people of the city are paying the price for the misery.”
Vijaypal Singh also pointed out the false promises of the BJP. He said, “The BJP had promised the people of Dhanas the right to ownership of the Laldora expansion and housing board flats, but till date the people have not got anything. This is a ‘government of false promises’, a ‘government of jhumlas’, which only remembers the people during elections.”
He said, “The BJP-ruled corporation has made a mockery of the administrative system of Chandigarh. Broken roads, piles of garbage everywhere, clogged drains and dry parks are proof that the BJP has nothing to do with the problems of the people. It is only busy doing politics, not running the government. The people will not tolerate this misrule now.”
Finally, Vijaypal Singh said, “When the voice of the people is crushed inside the House, it becomes our duty to take to the streets. The BJP has turned public service into a game of ego and power. Now the people of Chandigarh will not tolerate this oppression and false promises.”
The Aam Aadmi Party has warned that if roads are not repaired, cleaned and basic facilities are not restored soon, the party will start a large-scale agitation in every ward of the city.
