Una, December 5: On the occasion of World Soil Day, the Agriculture Department, Una, organized a special awareness event for students enrolled under the School Soil Health Program at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Saloh. The primary objective of this program was to develop students' understanding of soil health, its importance, and conservation.
Kulbhushan Dhiman, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Una, and Pooja, Soil Testing Officer (Soil Testing Laboratory, Una), were special guests at the event.
In his address, Kulbhushan Dhiman, Deputy Director, stated that soil is not just soil, but the very foundation of life. He informed the students in detail about soil erosion, excessive use of chemical fertilizers, and their environmental impacts. He stated that healthy soil is the key to nutritious food, a clean environment, and a secure future.
Pooja, Soil Testing Officer, explained the practical process of soil testing to the students. He explained that farmers and students can easily test soil nutrient deficiencies and levels using low-cost technologies. Registered students participated enthusiastically during the program, collecting soil samples through the Soil Health Card mobile app, and asking important questions related to promoting soil conservation. Students also took a pledge to conserve soil.
Praising the program's success, school Principal Neelam Guleria said that such events inspire students to become future "soil sentinels." She said, "Every particle and every drop counts, and this awareness will enable future generations to protect the environment."
