Hoshiarpur:- While the ongoing discussions of making Shri Anandpur Sahib a new district have been welcomed by the people for the past several days, there is a strong opposition from the people of Garhshankar constituency to merge Garhshankar constituency with the proposed new district of Shri Anandpur Sahib.
In this regard, representatives of various political parties, trade unions and social organizations submitted a memorandum to SDM Garhshankar Sanjeev Kumar under the leadership of Darshan Singh Mattu. In which it was demanded that the Punjab government should not include Garhshankar sub-division in the new proposed district of Shri Anandpur Sahib.
He said that Garhshankar sub-division is an integral part of Hoshiarpur district historically, administratively and economically. Therefore, keeping in mind the feelings of the people, Garhshankar constituency should be allowed to remain with Hoshiarpur district.
On this occasion, besides representatives of various political parties, leaders of the Garhshankar Chamber of Commerce and social organizations were present.
