Amritsar:- Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted three networks involved in drug and illegal arms trafficking by arresting eight persons with 9.549 kg of heroin, 5.459 kg of opium and an illegal .30-bore pistol. DGP Gaurav Yadav gave this information here today.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajinder Singh (27), a resident of Indira Colony; Vinay (26), a resident of Gawal Mandi; Pradeep Singh (37), a resident of village Varnali Harsha Chhina; Karan Singh alias Karan (24), Navneet alias Keera (18) and Jashandeep Singh alias Dhunni (19), all three residents of village Attari; Baljinder Singh (37), a resident of Baba Budha Singh Colony, Amritsar; and Amrit Pal Singh alias Amrit (25), a resident of village Boparai Baj Singh, Amritsar Rural.
The DGP said preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based smugglers and were receiving consignments of heroin, opium and illegal weapons sent through drones and supplying them further. He said the police have also traced the links between the accused and other associates involved in the supply network.
The DGP said further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved in the case and bust the drug and illegal arms trafficking network.
Police Commissioner (CP) Harmanbir Singh Gill said that acting on specific information, the police arrested Rajinder Singh along with a .30-bore pistol. On the basis of interrogation, his associate Vinay was arrested with 4.2 kg of opium. He said that based on information provided by Vinay, another associate, Pradeep Singh, was arrested with an additional 1.2 kg of opium.
He said that Rs 62 lakh lying in the bank accounts of accused Pradeep Singh and his wife has been frozen.
Giving details of the second operation, the CP said that acting on secret information, the police arrested Karan Singh alias Karan with 7 kg of heroin. He said that during further investigation, his associates Navneet Singh alias Keera and Jashandeep Singh alias Dhunni were also arrested.
In the third operation, acting on specific information, the police arrested Baljinder Singh and Amritpal Singh alias Amrit and recovered 2.5 kg of heroin and a motorcycle from their possession. He said further investigation into the case is underway. Three cases have been registered in this connection.
