Bhawanigarh, September 15:- The state-level Rugby Under-14 (Boys and Girls) competitions under the 70th Punjab State Inter-District School Games 2026-27 began with great enthusiasm at Government Senior Secondary School, Gharachon. The games are being organised under the able guidance of District Education Officer (SE) Mrs. Tarwinder Kaur and Deputy District Education Officer Mrs. Manjit Kaur.
The competitions were formally inaugurated by Sarpanch of village Gharachon, S. Daljit Singh. Block Samiti Member S. Rajinder Singh Raji attended the occasion as the special guest. While blessing the players during the inauguration, Sarpanch Daljit Singh said that sports inculcate discipline, mutual cooperation and a healthy lifestyle among the youth. Therefore, every player should enter the field with sportsmanship and complete honesty.
Tournament Convenor S. Navkiranpreet Singh Khattra (Lecturer) and District Sports Coordinator Mrs. Naresh Saini said that on the first day, 12 teams from different districts displayed their skills in the girls’ category.
According to the results of the first day, in the match between Sangrur and Bathinda, Sangrur defeated Bathinda 3-0. Barnala defeated Faridkot by a big margin of 30-0 in a one-sided contest. Sri Muktsar Sahib defeated Fatehgarh Sahib 20-0. Amritsar put up an impressive performance, defeating Ludhiana 15-5 to enter the next round.
During the tournament, S. Balkar Singh PTI, S. Satpal Singh DPE, S. Beant Singh DPE and S. Kamaljit Singh PTI remained present as State Observers and Selectors to assess the performance of the players.
On the occasion, Overall In-charge of the games Principal Mr. Deepak Kumar (GSSS Gharachon), Principal Mrs. Karamjit Kaur, Principal Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur, Principal Mr. Gurmeet Singh, Headmaster Sukhdeep Singh, Headmaster Mr. Sapan Singla, Jastinder Singh DPE and Jasvir Singh (Lecturer Physical Education) were specially present. The stage proceedings were efficiently conducted by S. Sandeep Singh and Amarjot Joshi.
