Sangrur, June 14:- Dr. Ravjot Grewal IPS, SSP Sangrur while informing the press that while taking action during the campaign “War against Drugs” and “Village Guards” run by the District Police Sangrur, 21 drug cases were registered from 06.06.2026 to 12.06.2026, 31 alleged accused were arrested and 119 grams of heroin, 70 kg of poppy husk, 250 grams of sulfa/marijuana and 700 narcotic pills were seized. 07 cases were registered against the liquor dealers and 07 accused were arrested and 35,250 liters of liquor, 30,000 liters of illicit liquor and 235 liters of lahan were seized.
Apart from this, 01 case was registered under the Arms Act and 01 accused was arrested, from whom 01 country-made pistol and 02 live cartridges were seized. 01 case was registered under the Gambling Act and 01 accused was arrested and Rs. 1520/- was seized from him. During this period, 03 POs (absconders) were arrested.
03 alleged criminals who committed thefts/loots in the Longowal and Lehra police stations were arrested and 01 kg 500 grams of copper, 40 kg cumin and 01 cylinder were recovered from them.
The public was also appealed to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign. The general public is being made aware about the ill effects of drugs by holding meetings/contact meetings with Panchayats/Sports Clubs/Mohatwars.
During this period, various Gazetted Officers/Chief Officers held meetings with the general public in 22 villages/cities to make the youth aware about the ill effects of drugs and the general public was motivated to inform the police about the smugglers involved in the drug trade so that the scourge of drugs can be eradicated from the root.
Concrete efforts are being made to prevent drugs by taking action against drug dealers and bad elements. The war on drugs continues.
