Sangrur, June 09: Dr. Ravjot Grewal, SSP, Sangrur, informed the press today that during the campaign launched by the Punjab Government to make the state drug-free, titled "War Against Drugs" and "Pindaan De Pehredaar," along with the operation against anti-social elements, the Sangrur Sub-Division police achieved a major success. Station House Officer (SHO) Sadar Sangrur, Avtar Singh, received information that Karanveer Singh alias Karna, Manmohan Singh alias Gaggu (residents of village Kular Khurd), and Amandeep Singh alias Mani (resident of Tunga)—who are habitual drug sellers—were sitting near the drain on the road leading from Kular Khurd to Kheri. It was reported that they were also in possession of an illegal pistol.
Under the supervision/guidance of Shri Dalbir Singh Sidhu, DSP, Sub-Division Sangrur, the SHO of Police Station Sadar Sangrur registered a case and conducted a raid to apprehend the accused. During the search, 9.51 grams of heroin/Chitta, 180 intoxicating tablets, and an illegal pistol with 06 live cartridges were recovered from them.
Manmohan Singh alias Gaggu has 02 cases of heinous crimes registered against him, and Karanveer Singh alias Karna has 03 cases of heinous crimes registered against him. The accused will be presented in court to obtain police remand for in-depth interrogation, which is expected to lead to further significant revelations.
Apart from the above, the Sangrur Sub-Division police registered 06 drug-related cases between June 02, 2026, and June 08, 2026, arresting 07 accused and recovering 6,550 intoxicating tablets and 28.51 grams of heroin/Chitta. Additionally, 02 cases were registered under the Excise Act, leading to the arrest of 01 person and the recovery of 240 bottles of country-made liquor (144 bottles of 'Theka Desi Kalal Sofi' and 96 bottles of 'Theka Desi Jamila Santra' from Chandigarh).
06 accused involved in heinous crimes and other offenses have also been arrested. Furthermore, 06 individuals trapped in the drug menace were provided medical treatment to help them quit drugs.
Approximately 164 traffic challans were issued for various violations of traffic rules. Suspected individuals were checked, leading to action against 152 persons under section 172 BNSS, and preventive action was taken against 04 individuals.
The public has been appealed to cooperate in the anti-drug campaign. Meetings with Panchayats, sports clubs, and prominent citizens are being held to create awareness among the youth and the general public, encouraging them to provide timely information to the police regarding drug activities, so that the menace of drugs can be eradicated from its roots.
Legal action is being taken immediately upon receiving information against drug peddlers and anti-social elements. Concrete efforts are being made to prevent drug abuse. The war against drugs continues.
