SAS Nagar, September 23 – Under the organization building campaign being run by the Congress Party, the central observers sent by the party high command (in which senior leaders considered close to Rahul Gandhi have been given the responsibility) for the election of presidents of 29 districts of Punjab are holding meetings with party leaders and workers in their respective districts and are also talking to the contenders for the post of district president of the party.
Meanwhile, the party’s central observer appointed for Mohali district, Mr. Manoj Yadav, has held meetings with party leaders and workers in three assembly constituencies of Mohali district and listened to their views and has also interviewed the contenders for the post of district president of the party.
Meanwhile, during the meeting held in Mohali (in which MP Dr. Amar Singh and former Mayor of Chandigarh Mr. Ravinder Pal Singh Pali along with Mr. Manoj Yadav were present as co-observers), former Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Mr. Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu have brought forward the name of former Chairman of Market Committee Kharar Mr. Harkesh Chand Machhli Kalan. The Sidhu brothers have presented Harkesh Chand Sharma as a strong candidate and have also lobbied the elected councilors of Mohali Municipal Corporation and other leaders in support of Mr. Sharma.
If we talk about Mohali Assembly constituency, then the name of Deputy Mayor of Mohali Mr. Kuljit Singh Bedi is also included in the race for the presidency, who has presented his candidacy. Mr. Bedi, who was once considered Mr. Sidhu's right-hand man, is not only distancing himself from Mr. Sidhu but is also contesting the party ticket as a separate candidate from the Mohali assembly constituency.
Mr. Bedi is currently serving as the co-observer of Patiala district and his staking claim for this post is making the situation interesting. Apart from this, municipal councilor Narpinder Singh Rangi and Gaurav Jain, son of former district president of the party, Mr. Rishav Jain, have also filed their candidatures from Mohali constituency.
Apart from this, around two dozen candidates including the party's current district president Ranjit Singh Jeeti Padiala, Kamaljit Singh Chawla (Kurali), Kamal Kishore Sharma (Kharar), district president of the women's wing Swaranjit Kaur, Amit Bawa (Derabassi), Ranjit Singh Naglia and Rakesh Kumar have filed their candidatures and it will be interesting to see which leader is crowned as the party's district president.
