Chandigarh, 18th September Eminent legal expert and former Head Professor of Law Department of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar Dr. Kashmir Singh has said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) being proposed by the central government is contrary to the principle of unity in diversity of Indian society and will destroy the prevailing law and religious norms of the country. Speaking as the main speaker in the Kharak Singh Memorial Lecture organized by the Institute of Sikh Studies at Gurdwara Sahib Kanthala, Dr. Kashmir Singh said that although the Hindu code (law) is also like a mini UCC, parallel Muslim personal law and traditional and customary laws of various tribes exist in the country. He said that if the Uniform Civil Code is enacted as a regular law by the Parliament (the provisions of which are laid down under Article 44 of the Constitution under the Directive Principles of State Policy) then all Personal Laws and Customary Laws will be abolished which will adversely affect the people of the country. There will be an effect. This will have the worst impact on the Muslim minorities and tribes. On this occasion, Dr. Danshwar came from Punjabi University, Patiala. Khalid Hussain said that Mussim Personal Law is according to our Shariah which is based on Quran, Hadith and Sunnah and according to Shariah every Muslim is instructed to follow these principles. If a uniform civil code is enforced, it would be an absolute abrogation of the religious morals of the followers of Islam in a manner which the Muslim community would never approve of. Sikh thinker Dr. presiding over the event.
