Nagar Kirtan organized at Amritsar on the first Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Granth Sahib

Amritsar, September 16 On the occasion of the first birth anniversary of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, a large number of devotees paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib today. Various events were organized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on the occasion of this historic day. While a series of Jeevan Jugati events were conducted in the city of Sri Amritsar for the past several days, today a huge city kirtan was organized from Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib to Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Amritsar, September 16 On the occasion of the first birth anniversary of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, a large number of devotees paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib today. Various events were organized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on the occasion of this historic day. While a series of Jeevan Jugati events were conducted in the city of Sri Amritsar for the past several days, today a huge city kirtan was organized from Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib to Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.

At the time of the departure of this Nagar Kirtan, which was decorated under the umbrella of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and led by five beloved ones, Sachkhand, Chief Granth of Sri Harmandir Sahib and Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh and President of Shiromani Committee, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, five Dear ones, Nishanchi and Nagarchi Singhs were honored by giving siropao.

A large number of cult personalities and Sangats had arrived on this occasion. Before the commencement of Nagar Kirtan, Sri Akhand Path Sahib's Bhogs were offered and Ragi Jathas performed Gurbani Kirtan.

On this occasion Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh congratulated the devotees on the first birth anniversary and said that Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the will of the Sikhs and every Sikh has the duty to follow the path shown by the holy Gurbani and live his life. He said that the fifth Patshah Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji edited Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji with his own hands and published the first Sachkhand at Sri Harimandar Sahib in 1604. On the same day, the fifth Patshah Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji gave Baba Budha ji the first Granthi service, which started the Granthi tradition.

Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh said that since the time of the Guru till today, a large number of devotees gather on the occasion of the first birth anniversary and pay respect and reverence to their holy Guru Granth Sahib. He encouraged the Sangat to adopt the holy Gurbani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji in their lives and lead a life according to Gurmati.

During Nagar Kirtan, Gatka performance by Sikh youths as well as shabadi jathas expressed their devotion by singing shabad. Meanwhile, langars of different dishes were also installed by devotees at different places. During the Nagar Kirtan, representatives of various Sabha Societies and devotees attended in large numbers.
