Land Pooling Policy: Farmers take to the streets with tractors.

Chandigarh- Farmers from various organizations affiliated to the United Kisan Morcha have made full preparations to take out tractor marches in 116 villages of Punjab to oppose the state government's proposal to acquire land under the land pooling policy. The biggest gathering and rally in this regard is expected to be held in Ludhiana district today, where 45,861 acres of land are proposed to be acquired. This includes 24,311 acres for residential purposes and 21,550 acres for setting up industrial zones.

Balbir Singh Rajewal, leader of the United Kisan Morcha, said that the tractor rally will start from various places including Kumkalan, Balion, Dakha, Jodhan and Jagraon in Ludhiana district.
"This will be the biggest march in recent times, as people in rural areas want to express their anger against this attempt to snatch their fertile lands and displace them from their homes," he said. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the police have increased their vigilance in these areas as hundreds of tractors have started arriving to participate in the protest.
