Una, May 7- District level road safety committee meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Una Jatin Lal. During this, the Deputy Commissioner directed to strictly implement road safety rules in the district. Also, asked to deal strictly with those driving over speed and carelessly so that accidents can be controlled.
Jatin Lal asked to work with an integrated approach to make the roads safe, encroachment free and traffic risk free in the district. He directed the concerned departments to take pre-corrective steps to reduce accidents and ensure strict compliance of traffic rules.
He directed the officials of NH department and PWD to install speed breakers, zebra crossings and other safety sign boards near educational institutions and hospitals located on the roadside including sharp turn points in the district so that smooth traffic remains and possible accidents can be prevented. He directed the electric wing of the Public Works Department to install traffic lights on Old Hoshiarpur Road near the DC office. He also asked to cover the open drains located on the roadside at Old Hoshiarpur so that no untoward accident occurs.
Instructions to improve black spots and prepare road safety plan
The Deputy Commissioner instructed all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates to identify accident prone spots and black spots in their jurisdiction and improve them and prepare a road safety plan with the concerned officials. He said that for road safety, CCTV cameras and crash barriers, parapets, light reflectors and speed breakers should be installed as per requirement at accident prone spots. He asked the officials to bring the report of improvement works in the next meeting.
On this occasion, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh, ADC Mahendra Pal Gurjar, SDM Haroli Vishal Sharma, SDM Amb Sachin Sharma, RTO Una Ashok Kumar and officials of various departments were present.
