
District Health Department committed to eradicate drug addiction from its roots: Dr. Sangeeta Jain.

Nagar April 11, 2025: Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said that under the Punjab Government's campaign "War on Drugs", the District Health Department is fully committed to eradicate drug addiction from its roots and any person wishing to quit drug addiction can go to the nearest government health institution and contact the doctors or tell his problem on the medical helpline of the Health Department.

Nagar April 11, 2025: Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said that under the Punjab Government's campaign "War on Drugs", the District Health Department is fully committed to eradicate drug addiction from its roots and any person wishing to quit drug addiction can go to the nearest government health institution and contact the doctors or tell his problem on the medical helpline of the Health Department.
The Civil Surgeon issued here said that drug addiction is also like other diseases, which is completely curable. He said that the Health Department is making every effort for the recovery of people suffering from drug addiction and the patient should also make up his mind to get rid of this disease. He informed that there is a district level de-addiction and rehabilitation center in Sector 66 of Mohali where drug addiction free treatment is done.
In this center, free accommodation and food is provided to drug addicts. He said that along with medical treatment, physical activities are also organized for the patients like sports, yoga, vocational training, tree plantation etc. Apart from this, recreational activities are also organized for them. He said that the identity of the patient is kept completely confidential so that there is no feeling of any kind of stigma in his mind.
Dr. Jain said that the medical officer and all other staff present in the center treat the patient with love and compassion so that he does not feel isolated and his focus remains only on getting rid of addiction. The Civil Surgeon said that the purpose of organizing various activities for the patients is to provide them a home-like atmosphere in the center so that their focus always remains away from the bad habit of addiction and they can live their life like a normal person.
Apart from this, the counselors constantly motivate the patient to quit addiction in various ways. He appealed to the people that if there is a drug patient in their home, relatives or neighborhood and he wants to quit addiction, then he should be motivated and brought to the government health institution.
