Two drowned after boat capsized in Godavari river due to strong winds

Rajashmandi, March 4- Two people drowned after a boat capsized in Godavari river in East Godavari district. A police officer said that the boat capsized due to strong winds. Rajahmundry Central DSP K Ramesh Babu said that the accident occurred around 7:30 pm on Monday and the bodies of the deceased were recovered around 1 am on Tuesday. Babu told PTI, “12 people were returning from Bridge Lanka, an island located in the middle of Godavari river, in a country boat. Due to strong winds, the boat went to one side near pillar number eight of Havelock Bridge.”

During the strong winds, all the people in the boat went to one side, which caused the boat to lose its balance. The officer said that the boatman could not save two people from the group. According to the police, the group had gone to Bridge Island to attend a private program. Police officials said that the boats are not allowed to carry people, they are only allowed to catch fish. Therefore, a case has been registered.
